IT'S A 5 MINUTE DOUBLE FEATURE! In the closest thing to a 5 Minute Freak actually being 5 minutes long, Chris reviews/compares the 1973 George Romero cult classic The Crazies with it's 2010 remake. Surprisingly the remake is not a horrible abomination. Watch out for an upcoming comparison of Clash Of The Titans and IT'S remake. I have a feeling there will be blood! When Chris has had a hard day at work, or his girlfriend has dumped him and hooked up with that stupid drummer or his rent is late and his dog died- he likes to share his pain. He does this by subjecting himself to horrible media and then bitching about it. It doesn't really make Chris feel any better, but Chris has heard that it's pretty entertaining to other people. Would you like to listen? Good, because here it is. This time it's an 80's mega low-budget Italio-Road Warrior rip-off lobotomy called "Warriors Of The Wasteland". Chris watched this stinkeroo while the sun shone and the birds sang outside. Any subsequent vitamin D deficiencies will be blamed on Will Sanchez, who sent this shaggy dog along to give Chris a virtual cinematic waterboarding.WATCH WARRIORS OF THE WASTELAND HERE but remember - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! And lo there came a day... a day like other Fridays... where Scott Gardner and Michael Bailey band together to discuss the adventures of the single greatest super-hero team of all time...THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! This week. Scott and Mike begin their look at the legendary (or maybe not-so-legendary) team-ups between the JSA and the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in their own title! This time out, the stories are... well, they don't suck (for the most part), but they don't exactly set Scott and Mike on fire with excitement, either (though they hear that there's ointment for that now).
In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 135 thru 137, the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-2 team up with the heroes of Earth-S and Boy, is this goofy!! I mean, for one thing, two of the characters are named Mr. Scarlet and Pinky, the Whiz Kid. You just can't make that sort of thing up!! This story also promises the FIRST titanic meeting between Superman and Captain Marvel!! And what should have been the throw-down to end all throw-downs... sadly, wasn't.
Then, in issues 147 and 148, the JLA and JSA team-up once again. Only this time, they are joined with the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES to battle Mordru!! Mike and Scott really don't have a whole heck of a lot to say about this story because, frankly, it was the very definition of "meh". Oh, sure... they talk about how Power Girl seems to have some sort of freaky, unnatural, backwoods, redneck attraction to the Earth-1 Superman, but, for the second time this episode, what should have been an EPIC storyline involving the greatest heroes of three eras... sadly, wasn't.
Oh, and Scott meets his idol at show's end... but it doesn't go well...

Welcome to Episode #23 of "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA", which sadly sees the closing of the first era of this podcast as we cover the last two JSA stories from ADVENTURE COMICS. At least 27 minutes of audio had to be cut because Michael couldn't stop crying like a big baby. Before that happened, though, Scott and Mike read some more of YOUR e-mails and the usual subjects of the JSA appearance on SMALLVILLE and BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD came up in addition to other musings from the BEST PODCAST-LISTENING AUDIENCE IN THE KNOWN MULTI-VERSE!! Then, the guys get right into ADVENTURE COMICS #s 465 and 466! In #465, Mike and Scott scratch their heads a lot at the general goofy nature of the story and ask seemingly unimportant questions like -- WHY IN THE HELL IS A HOSPITAL DEVELOPING A POISON PILL THAT'LL DISSOLVE IN FIVE HOURS AN KILL THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE?!! In issue #466, they discuss the REAL reason the JSA disbanded in 1953! The guys love this story despite a few nit-picks (but what else is new, right?).
Also in this episode -- THE ADS RETURN! Whoo-hoo!! THERE'S EVEN A HOSTESS AD -- THAT DOESN"T INVOLVE BASEBALL! Plus, Mike and Scot catch up on the "Elsewhere in the DC Universe" segment (including some issues they missed last month, the fools!).
So, :sniff, sob: The JSA's ongoing adventures may be over (for now), but there is still A LOT of awesome to come!! "Required Reading" for next week -- JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Vol. 1) #s 135-137, 147 & 148, and 159 & 160. That's right, folks! You asked for it and they're bringing it! Scott and Mike WILL be tackling the JLA/JSA crossovers that took place AFTER the release of ALL-STAR COMICS #58.
